RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Keep it Genuine/Motorcraft Taurus (Qualified 12th) -

"We won practice and that was great, but I'm really disappointed. I just couldn't get a hold of the race track like I did early on. We were on the borderline earlier in the day of not having enough grip and I don't know if it was just the heat in the race track or what. It was about 8-10 degrees hotter and I just couldn't get a hold of it. It's not like it did anything wrong, it just didn't stick like it did in practice. It's unfortunate. We had a real fast race car and still have a fast race car, but we just didn't quite get it figured out for qualifying. From that aspect it's pretty disappointing."

ANY IDEA WHY YOU SLOWED DOWN? "We were definitely very good in the morning when the track was cooler and I'm not really sure. We put on a set of stickers just like we did earlier when we ran really fast and it just didn't go as fast. The car didn't stick as good as it did in practice and I'm not really sure why. I don't know if it was the difference in tires or the heat in the track. Our setup was maybe right on the borderline. I'm disappointed in one respect, but really just tickled to death. We're disappointed that we didn't win the pole, whereas early in the year we were disappointed because we might have used a provisional. We've come a long way."

HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR CHANCES SUNDAY? "It's a rebuilding process right now and it's getting better each week and here's another new week. There's no question we're gonna be better at Kansas this time than we were last year. Hopefully, we can get the car dialed in where we can challenge to run up front. This is the car we ran at Fontana and it ran very well there, so we'll see. We made up three laps there. Hopefully, we can run as fast but not have to make up laps."
