Budweiser At The Glen 08/12/90 WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Ricky Rudd went through a racer's nightmare Sunday but won his second Budweiser at the Glen NASCAR stock car race in three years. Rudd, who started 12th, overcame a spin and two cut tires to edge Geoff Bodine and Brett Bodine for the $55,000 first prize. Pole-sitter Dale Earnhardt finished seventh after a late pit stop. Friday, Earnhardt set the fastest pole time at Watkins Glen with a clocking of 1:12.125 (120.190 mph). Rudd, who won in 1988, is the second two-time winner of the race. Rusty Wallace won in 1987 and 1989. ``The first half of the race went completely against us,'' Rudd said. ``We had so many flat tires that it took us over half the race to get back to the front of the pack.'' Rudd was in the pits twice for cut tires and collided with Geoff Bodine in the ninth lap. The cars came together and spun out, putting Rudd well back. ``The biggest thing about this course is to know when to run and when not to,'' Rudd said after his first victory this year. ``Once we got past the problems, the cautions really bunched up the field and helped us get back into the race.'' Geoff Bodine led five laps but couldn't hold off Rudd. ``I had a tire ... jumping about a foot off the ground after the (last) restart,'' said Bodine, who won two weeks ago at the AC Spark Plug 500 in Long Pond, Pa. ``We got spun around at the beginning and then we had a flat tire. But we came back.'' ``That was quite a finish,'' Brett said. ``The last time the Bodine brothers were racing to the line at the end, it was for third. So we're getting closer.'' Fifteen cars in the 40-car field didn't finish. Two others were running but were 25 to 35 laps behind the leaders. Defending champion Wallace blew an engine on Lap 46, damaging his hopes of repeating as Winston Cup champion. ``We must have dropped a valve or a rod,'' said Wallace, fourth in point standings going into the race. ``It's too bad because I was running well.''
