1995 Dura Lube 500

Phoenix International Raceway
October 29, 1995
Track Length 1.0 mile
Winston Cup Race #30

Ricky Rudd won the Dura Lube 500 at Phoenix Sunday and in doing so kept
his winning streak alive. He has now won at least one Winston Cup event
for the last 13 years. This was is 16th career victory. His last win came
at New Hampshire International Speedway last July. Rudd has never won
more than two races in one year. Rudd expressed his relief that he achieved
the win.

Rudd reflected on the streak. "The streak will be nice this winter when
we'resitting around with some idle time. But, really to me, the win's more
important fot the financial gains and sponsor side of it. With Downy on
board and Whirlpool coming on, they're pledged their efforts to us. To me
if you don't win a race, you haven't fulfilled your obligations to your sponsors."

Dale Earnhardt picked up only 15 points on Jeff Gordon in the run for the
Winston Cup Championship. Gordon's lead has now been reduced to 147 points,
but he is only a 41st or better finish at Atlanta away from his first
Career Winston Cup title. Both ran close to the front all day with Gordon
experiencing more troubles that Earnhardt. But, in true championship form,
the Gordon and the Rainbow Warriors kept working on the setup all day,
allowing Gordon to finish 5th.

Earnhardt said, "We were best in class. Our car was a little loose, but
we were best on class. We gained a few points. At least we didn't lose
any."

Gordon commented, "We wanted to keep the #3 in sight today. I
thought I could keep him in my mirror, but he was pretty tough today."
